jkt Architecture were asked by our client to help revitalise their existing home with a contemporary, low-energy extension and re-model.
Our brief was to refresh our clients existing home with a much-needed facelift whilst incorporating a drastic re-model of the ground floor incorporating a new front porch and single storey rear extension.
Our vision was to blend a contemporary style with a natural material palate, both inside and out, to reflect the sustainable drive behind the project.
Functionally, the space needed to accommodate this growing family and their desire for a more cohesive and spacious home, that provided a greater connection to the outdoors.
The final scheme presented a beautiful blend of natural timber and polished concrete materials to create a light, warm and welcoming living space that provided the required separation of functional spaces whilst maintaining a seamless flow and balance throughout. Large glazed sliding doors to the rear of the new extension provided the much-needed connection to the garden, whilst also optimising the south facing sun exposure to improve the buildings solar heat gain. Meanwhile, the strategically incorporated timber pergola was incorporated to provide solar shading in the summer months to avoid overheating, whilst maintain a clean and striking visual contrast against the new rear extension.

“John has been brilliant throughout our project. He has been approachable, professional and very knowledgeable. During the brief and concept stages he listened to our ideas and created some very innovative and practical designs. We’ve had clear communication at every stage and John’s help has been invaluable whilst navigating through the project. We wouldn’t hesitate to use JKT Architecture again in the future.”
