Modern House Extension Harrogate: Merging Period Cottages

Our Role:
jkt architecture was engaged to take on this exciting new project, nestled within the rural fringes of Harrogate.
The brief required a sensitive yet bold intervention: to merge and extend two independent period cottages into a singular, cohesive family home - a project that celebrates a seamless union of history and modern architectural craft.
Our design centres on a striking modern house extension that acts as a bridge between eras. By utilising natural stone masonry and expansive, high-performance glazing, we have created a structure that respects the weight and character of the original period property while introducing a clean, contemporary silhouette.
As a leading residential architecture practice in Harrogate, we prioritise designs that harmonise with the local context and surroundings. The large sections of glazing not only define the aesthetic of this modern house extension in Harrogate but also offer extensive panoramic views of the beautiful rural landscape. This strategic use of glass floods the interior with natural light, creating the airy, open-plan environment often sought from a residential architect in Harrogate.
This project has recently been submitted for planning. Drawing on our deep understanding of North Yorkshire planning nuances, we look forward to the local council’s response as we move this bespoke home design toward the technical delivery phase.
