At face-value this single storey rear extension project would seem relatively straight-forward, however the sloping site and poorly considered past extension work presented a bigger challenge than originally thought.
jkt Architecture worked closely with our client to undergo thorough exploration and design development to eventually present a final scheme to meet our clients’ requirements whilst working within the scope of development they were comfortable with.
Our final scheme proposed to demolish a previously undertaken extension and re-build a new extension providing a self-contained space that, aesthetically, provided a striking contrast against the existing building. The new extension provided some additional, much-needed, living space including a new guest bedroom, additional shower room, small office as well as a secluded and peaceful additional living room.
Sustainable design was a driving factor behind the proposals which incorporate large glazed sliding doors, taking advantage of the south facing sun exposure, carefully considered timber pergola to offer solar shading, and a beautiful wild-flower green roof to provide enhanced thermal performance and localised bio-diversity.
