jkt Architecture were approached to design a bespoke extension and remodel of our clients’ home, creating the much-needed space and improved flow their growing family required.
Our clients’ passion for quality over quantity was what drew us to this project. Working within a modest budget, we focused on designing a floor plan that worked as hard as possible, balancing efficiency with the essentials of a modern family home.
Through a partial demolition and rebuild, the scheme delivered a modest 17m² of additional space (including the garage conversion) yet transformed the way the house functions. The new layout now provides a spacious entrance hall, separate utility/boot room, ground floor W/C, a dedicated living room, and an open-plan kitchen/living/dining space that maintains a strong connection to the rear garden.
It just goes to show that you don’t always need the biggest budget, or the largest extension, to create a home that truly works for you.
Externally, our clients were clear that they didn’t want the standard “permitted development extension look”—which was music to our ears! In response, we developed a sleek, contemporary form featuring splayed and recessed window and door reveals, paired with a striking mix of brickwork and timber. These warm, autumnal tones ground the extension beautifully within the rural setting of their garden.
